The Marinus Link project offers significant opportunities for suitably qualified and experienced Australian manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and other service providers to participate, directly or indirectly, in the project. 

Lead contractors are required to provide Tasmanian and/or Victorian Industry Participation Plans that demonstrate how they will maximise opportunities for Australian companies. 


Upcoming industry briefing events: Meet the Contractors

Registrations are now open for ‘Meet the Contractors’ industry briefings this December, where you’ll learn about upcoming work packages and construction timelines, and network with the project’s lead contractors.

Events are free to attend and will be held in:

  • BURNIE: 2 December 10am – 12.30pm, Burnie Arts  
  • LEONGATHA: 4 December, 10am – 12.30pm, Leongatha Memorial Hall  
  • TRARALGON: 5 December, 10am – 12.30pm, Traralgon Town Hall

Industry Capability Network gateway

Open works packages are publicised on Gateway by ICN – Marinus Link.

The ICN Gateway is a platform developed by Industry Capability Network (ICN) in Australia, designed to connect suppliers and buyers, particularly in major infrastructure, construction, mining, energy, and government projects.

Lead contractors

TasVic Greenlink

In September 2025, MLPL selected TasVic Greenlink (TVGL) as the preferred bidder in the project’s major civils and construction tender. TVGL is a joint venture of DT Infrastructure and Samsung C&T Corporation.

The contract, currently in final negotiations with TasVic Greenlink, will cover the construction of converter stations in Heybridge and Hazelwood, the installation of equipment and the land cable civil works, which spans 90km across Gippsland.

Hitachi Energy

In May 2024, Hitachi Energy was contracted to supply its HVDC Light voltage source converter stations for Marinus Link Stage 1.

These will convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) for efficient, long-distance transmission and DC to AC, where the electricity is returned to the grid. The advanced converter technology will also help to stabilise the grid and enable the integration of more renewable energy.

Hitachi Energy pioneered commercial HVDC technology 70 years ago and has delivered more than half of the world’s HVDC projects. Today, the company has the largest installed base of HVDC in the world.

Prysmian Powerlink

In August 2024, Prysmian Powerlink was contracted to design, manufacture, supply and install the project’s HVDC and fibre optic cables for Stage 1.

The project’s cables span 345 kilometres (km). This includes 255 km of undersea cables across Bass Strait and 90 km of underground cables in Gippsland, Victoria.

Marinus Link’s HVDC submarine cables will be manufactured at Prysmian’s Arco Felice factory in Naples and laid by the Leonardo Da Vinci – Prysmian’s most advanced cabling vessel. The land cables will be manufactured in a different factory in Gron, France. Prysmian is the world’s largest cable manufacturer.
